8 INSPIRING TEENS WHO ARE USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Teenagers are often considered as lazy, cyber bullies and people who want to question everything. Though the teenagers are often in the bad limelight, not every teenager is bad. There are some inspiring teenagers who are fighting social injustice that prevails in the society.

Let’s look at eight most inspiring teenagers who are using social media to fight social injustice and change the world.

GoFundMe

Jack is a 16 year old created GoFundMe for elementary school students. The goal of the website is to supply the students with all school-related supplies such as, notebooks, pens, pencils, etc. to under resourced students all over the country. He uses the platform Kids in Need to collect funds and supply them. The initiative gathered so much attention online that the George Shinn Foundation has started supporting Jack’s effort by matching the donation total.

The Unity Challenge

Kolin started The Unity Challenge after he was bullied in school. He developed a platform to attract people so that many people join his cause to stop children from getting bullied. Kolin has travelled to Washington to meet with Sentors and Representatives to share his message of unity and fight the social injustice that bullied children have to face. He is trying for a national day, called Unity Day, for every last Wednesday in October of every year.

Celebrate RVA

Julia Warren started Celebrate RVA when she realized that they are plenty of underprivileged children who do not get to celebrate their birthdays like her every year. She took it upon herself to give birthday parties to all the disadvantaged children in Richmond. Her blogs showcase about the recent party and who all joined in. The nonprofit organization aims to celebrate every children’s birthday to fullest.  She believes that no children should feel that they are facing social injustice just because they can’t celebrate their birthday like every other child. She loved to spread the love online through her blog along with making wonderful memories for all the children in Richmond.

Heart Foundation

Joshua Williams of Miami is on a mission to end hunger around the world. He has recruited over 25,000 young volunteers to help him in this mission. Together with the volunteers he has raised over a million dollars through Heart Foundation to feed families and individuals around the world. He is active on every social media and has his own blog to spread awareness about his cause.

Jump with Jah’kiyla (JWJ) Foundation

One day when Jah’kiyla was cheer practicing she saw a few girls looking at her. She asked them to practice with her, when one of the girls replied they don’t have enough money to spend on cheer practice and material. This incident inspired Jah’kiyla to start her foundation to fight this social injustice. The foundation works to provide opportunities to children to play sports without any financial problems. She created a website for the children, through the website, they encourage donations to help kids and their families to apply for sports vouchers.

Ark’s Foundation

Three teenagers came together for a volunteer project in Ghana: Ivan Boyers, Andrew Goodrum and Ariel Kim. They worked on three different work sites and feel in love with the work. Upon returning home, they vowed to continue raising donations to create a school at one of the sites. They set up Ark’s Foundation to raise donations. Since many people did not know about them or their work, they took up social media to spread awareness. They have raised almost $70,000 through various social media platforms for school’s construction. One of their goal is to visit the site again to see the newly constructed school.

Blue Line Bears

Blue Lines Bears is a non profit organization that aims to provide opportunities to the children of fallen law enforcement officers to cope with devastating lose of a parent. Megan realized how everyday an officer risk their lives to provide safety to all the citizens. The families of the officers are thus in a constant fear and pray of their safety. The Blue Line Bears uses the uniform of the officers to create a teddy bear out of them. Through donation and other contributions, the Blue Line Bears covers all the cost of the teddy bears. Then, these teddy bears are gifted to the families. The goal of the organization is to keep officer’s memory alive in their family’s hearts.

Be the Light Youth Association

A 17-years old Pranav Pattatathunaduvil is the executive director of 30 students run Be the Light Youth Association. Their goal is to eradicate literacy gap in children. They use all the social media to advertise a book drive for all disadvantaged students. As a result, they collected over 2600 books, way more than their aspired for. They also have weekly debate and speeches for class 4 to 9 students. All the profit that they make goes to a charity that supports disadvantaged students.
