Three Theories on Satoshi Nakamoto Identity

By now, most people who have explored the world of cryptocurrency, know that the creator of bitcoin is an anonymous person, working under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. While Nakamoto is not one to reveal facts about his personal life, he has given out some information regarding his identity.

Satoshi Nakamoto has claimed to be a 37-year-old man, living in Japan on his P2P Foundation Profile. This claim was disputed by many in the community, as Satoshi’s use of English was consistent with that of a native speaker, on top of which, he employed many turns of phrase consistent with the British-English vernacular.

With bitcoin’s rise to prominence, more and more people are becoming interested in Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity. In fact, over the past twelve years, reputable media sources have speculated on, and claimed to have found evidence of Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity.

The Invention of Bitcoin

Before we look into the mystery, let’s first explain what bitcoin is, and how it got its start. For the uninitiated, Bitcoin is a digital currency, or cryptocurrency, that was first invented in 2009, by the previously mentioned Satoshi Nakamoto. In its early years, bitcoin’s value was only $0.0008, and it would take a whole year for it to rise to $0,08.

It was not until recently with the popularization of trading sites like BitIQ trading reviews, that Bitcoin got some traction, and had a rapid, upward spike in value to a staggering $35.000 currently, with some experts believing it will reach even greater heights in the coming years.

Trading sites have been an important factor in the rise of cryptocurrency’s popularity. The main reason is they provide an easy-to-use interface, and excellent services. Through the use of artificial intelligence, crypto trading sites can actually predict the fluctuations of the crypto market, and make sure their users get the best bang for their buck.

Now that we’ve looked at Bitcoin’s beginnings let’s take a look at the people that have been suspected of being Satoshi Nakamoto.

Nick Szabo

In 1996, legal scholar and computer engineer Nick Szabo wrote a paper discussing smart contracts. Mister Szabo went on to create the idea of a decentralized currency, which he described as a process whereby unforgeable units with a price could be traded online, independent of third party intermediaries. The name he gave this concept, was Bit Gold.

The similarities between Satoshi and Szabo do not end there, as Szabo had at some point worked for a company named DigiCash. The company was one of the first to attempt to introduce cryptography in digital payments. Other similarities include Szabo’s and Satoshi’s writing styles are very similar, and both reference Austrian economist Carl Menger in their works.

Nick Szabo has denied that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, however, many still suspect him to be the creator of Bitcoin.

Craig Wright

Wired Magazine published a profile on a man called Craig Wright in 2015, with the claim that they’d uncovered strong evidence of Nakamoto’s identity. Craig Wright had written several papers on cryptocurrency on his blog, his credentials included a master’s and two doctorates, not to mention he admitted to being the creator of Bitcoin.

Craig Wright’s claim was soon disputed, as Wired Magazine’s follow-up showed inconsistencies regarding his story. A great deal of the blogs linking him to bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto proved to be backdated, and many famous faces in the cryptocurrency world, such as Ethereum’s co-founder, publically denounced Wright, calling him a fraud.

Dorian Nakamoto

The most famous attempt to uncover Satoshi’s identity came in 2014, when Newsweek identified Los Angeles resident Dorian Nakamoto as the creator of Bitcoin. Apart from the obvious, proof-of-identity included both men being of Japanese descent, both had trained as engineers, and both had libertarian leanings.

Dorian Nakamoto has consistently denied these accusations, claiming he has nothing to do with Bitcoin.
